Solar Street Lights in Africa

The Africa is close to the equator, with direct solar radiation all year round and abundant sunlight resources. Meanwhile, due to insufficient local power supply and low lighting levels, about 90% Rural area are lack of lighting equipment. In recent years, Africa has been committed to seek effective solutions of sustainable lighting. So the solar street lights becomes the best choice. It absorbs solar energy and converted into electricity to power the LED Lights, which can perfectly solve the local power supply problem.

Since 2016, with the rapid development of urbanization in Africa, the export volume of solar street lights from China to African has been increasing day by day. Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Somalia, etc. are all major markets. There are ten thousands of solar lighting projects released by the local governments annually.

In Uganda,the Kampala Capital City Authority began revamping that city’s street lighting with solar-powered equipment in 2014, about 115 kilometers as the first trial. When it succeeded, the governments extended the project scale. About in 2016, Jinja City began installing solar-powered lighting, and then the other cities followed up. The 9M Double Arms 40W LED buried battery solar lights were the main configuration in Uganda at that time, 12v 100AH gel battery and 120W solar panel that could support 3 days back-up, 12 hour working. Efficiently satisfied the local city lighting demand.

Phoebus outdoor lighting also invested lots of energy in building Uganda market. In 2016, we completed the first 2.5km of road lighting in Kampala, about 155 sets of 8M 60W single arm solar lights. Till now, they are still work well. Ever since, we expanded the business scale in Uganda, cooperating with local construction and engineering companies, successfully rooted in the market. Even In December,2021, we’ve rewarded another 239000$ solar lighting project as the supplier of the solar lights,till now we have exported more than 3000pcs solar street lights and 7000pcs LED street lights to Uganda market.

Encouraged by the past results we got, also the official supporting regarding the solar lighting infrastructure, we will adhere to the concentrating on the development in Africa market.
